NEUNDORFER AWARDED DETROIT EDISON FLUE GAS CONDITIONING CONTRACT
Process Optimization Technology Improves Equipment Reliability
WILLOUGHBY, OHIO – January 7, 2009 – Neundorfer, Inc. was recently awarded a contract from Detroit Edison (DTE Energy) to improve the operation and reliability of four flue gas conditioning systems at the company’s coal-fired, 725-megawatt Trenton Channel Generating Station located in Trenton, Michigan. Flue gas conditioning systems help optimize the collection of particulate in electrostatic precipitators which are used for air pollution control. Neundorfer will provide consulting and engineering services to Detroit Edison in order to convert and upgrade the existing sulfuric trioxide (SO3) flue gas conditioning systems. Flue gas conditioning using SO3 is a proven method for improving dust resistivity and collection performance to reduce particulate emissions.
Detroit Edison is expected to realize system performance improvements based on the patented Neundorfer flue gas conditioning technology that uses the direct burn of granular, pelletized sulfur as the feedstock. The technology will be used to convert the existing systems which currently use molten sulfur feedstock. The improvements will increase system reliability, reduce maintenance costs and reduce operating costs.
